What is Curcumin?

Curcumin is the active ingredient in tumeric . This yellow/orange colored spice has been used for centuries as a food additive in India and China. It is one of the main ingredients in curry.

Tumeric has also been used as a dye so care must be taken when using this spice while preparing food. If any turmeric gets on your cloths make sure you immediately wash the spot out with soap and water.

Turmeric has also been used for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. A lot of recent interest in this exotic spice has lead to a substantial increase in tumeric research.

Curcumin Research

Research studies support the traditional belief that this spice has many medicinal properties. None of these studies provide us with conclusive proof of any long term benefits of curcumin but the research is encouraging. We welcome additional research into the health benefits of turmeric and its key active ingredients.

Curcumin Side Effects

It is reported that a phase one clinical trial of humans was conducted using 8,000 mg of curcumin daily witout any adverse reactions. Other human studies have been conducted using a smaller daily curcumin dosage, again with out any negative side effects.
