The health benefits of cherries are impressive! This common everyday fruit is packed with phyto nutrients that can help improve your health.

Do you suffer from gout or arthritis? A study at the University of California Davis showed that eating a serving of cherries daily lowered the blood uric acid levels by as much as 15 percent.

Uric acid in our joints is a major contributor to gout. When the kidneys aren't able to reduce uric acid in our blood it ends up in our joints where it can cause chronic inflammation and pain.

Cherries are rich in isoqueritrin and queritrin, two important flavonoids. According to researchers queritrin has been found to be one of the most powerful antioxidants ever discovered.

Animal studies have shown that the anthocyanins in cherries have anti-inflammatory properties. These substances are what make cherries red.

Benefits of Cherries

Listed below are some additional benefits of cherries:

  • Promotes circulation
  • May help you sleep better due to its melatonin content
  • Helps relieve migraine headaches
  • Helps prevent free radical damage
  • Black cherry juice helps you heal faster from muscle related sports injuries

Cherries can be eaten fresh, consumed as juice (my favorite is black cherry juice), dried like raisins or taken as a stand alone health supplement. Cherry juice is also added to many nutrient rich health drinks.

Cherry Information & Research

There is a large volume of anecdotal evidence supporting the health benefits of cherries. In addition to the personal experiences of many cherry juice users there is a growing body of scientific evidence supporting the claim that cherry juice benefits the body in specific ways. Although there is not any conclusive scientific evidence of the health benefits of cherry juice there have been a number of promising research studies completed.

Many of these cherry juice studies have shown positive results. The researchers almost invariably comment in their reports that additional research needs to be done. We concur with this conclusion. We welcome additional research on cherries and other natural health products.
